3D Mapping your eyes for precision LASIK & PRK surgery.

At Maloney-Shamie-Hura Vision Institute, the first step toward great vision is all in the details. We begin by scanning your eyes with the iDesign Advanced Wavescan System to obtain a complete and precise 3D map of your eye’s unique imperfections, capturing over 1,200 points of data per eye. This detailed digital map is then used during your LASIK or PRK procedure to individually address each tiny imperfection. The result is a correction so customized and precise; the majority of patients see 20/20 or better the next day.

iDesign LASIK

The pattern of visual imperfections in your eye is as unique to you as your fingerprint. Using WaveScan® based digital technology, originally developed for use in high-powered NASA telescopes to reduce distortions when viewing distant objects in space, we can now identify, measure and correct imperfections in your eyes 25 times more precisely than with standard methods used for measuring you for glasses and contact lenses. This information is transferred to the VISX laser, providing a new level of precision and accuracy.

Reach the full potential of your vision

Regular vision correction is based on evaluation of a single point: as you’ve heard so many times from your eye doctor, "Which is better, 1 or 2?" In sharp contrast, Wavefront Guided Measurements vision correction allows us to measure the visual imperfections in your eyes at 1200 individual points.

We can treat each of the 1200 points individually to create a personalized vision correction that is ideal for you. This treatment can potentially provide better vision than you have ever experienced with glasses or contact lenses. The painless scanning process takes less than one minute.

Expertise ensures high-quality results

Dr. Robert Maloney was the first U.S. surgeon to use the Wavefront technology as a guide for LASIK Vision Correction Surgery. He and Dr. Neda Shamie at the Maloney-Shamie-Hura Vision Institute have successfully used that technology with his patients since 2003. Wavefront has undergone a series of advances and improvements over the years, the latest with the approval of the iDesign Advanced Wavescan Studio System. Dr. Maloney was an FDA Principal Investigator for the iDesign U.S. trials, and the Maloney-Shamie-Hura Vision Institute was the first center in Los Angeles to offer iDesign LASIK.

In my sport, great vision is essential to success. I no longer have to wear bothersome contact lenses and worry about sand getting caught underneath them. The dry and irritating contact lenses are now a thing of the past! Thank you, Dr. Maloney!
