When Dr. Robert Maloney decided to become an eye surgeon in Los Angeles almost forty years ago, he had a simple goal: he wanted to help people see better. And perhaps because Dr. Maloney doesn’t do things halfway and doesn’t believe in “just okay,” that goal was rapidly supplanted by a new one: to give his patients great vision, without the need for glasses or contact lenses. And after almost thirty-five years of working at the forefront of innovative vision correction surgery, he’s made that target an attainable one.
Top Los Angeles Eye Surgeon, Dr. Maloney explains why he has such a passion for perfecting eyesight. “When I was a young boy, my grandmother needed surgery for cataracts. It didn’t go well, and I watched her nearly lose her vision because of it.” It wasn’t the vision loss that inspired Los Angeles eye doctor Robert Maloney. It was its restoration.

Dr. Maloney graduated Summa Cum Laude from Harvard College, with a degree in Mathematics.
Cambridge
Dr. Maloney returned to England to do a Research Fellowship in Physiology at Cambridge University.
Oxford
As a Rhodes Scholar, Dr. Maloney earned a Master of Arts degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics at Oxford University.
Johns Hopkins Hospital
Dr. Maloney did his residency in ophthalmology in one of the most prestigious programs in the United States, Johns Hopkins Hospital.
University of California at San Francisco
Dr. Maloney obtained his Medical Doctor degree in his home state of California at the University of California at San Francisco.
Emory University
Dr. Maloney continued his surgical training with a Heed Fellowship in Corneal and Refractive Surgery at Emory University. Here, he participated in the earliest trials of LASIK surgery.
A testament to his belief in the safety and benefits of LASIK surgery, Dr. Maloney had the procedure performed on his own eyes in 1997, making him one of the first refractive surgeons in North America to have LASIK.

20/15 VISION! (Better than 20/20!) My sister and I flew in from Vancouver, Canada for Lasik eye surgery with the one and only Dr. Maloney. From the moment you step into this office you feel so special! The entire process was so smooth, seamless, and all fit into a few hours! The eyes are thoroughly checked before the procedure, and everything they have is top quality, of course! The Lasik itself took maybe 10 minutes, and you don’t feel a thing! Dr. Maloney is so gentle, kind, and reassuring during the procedure. He is constantly telling you that you are doing just great. I loved that! After the surgery I could see and even read the clock in front of me WITHOUT GLASSES! The next day we had our checkup in the morning and was on a plane home in the afternoon! I got my Lasik done by Dr. Maloney about a month ago and it was the BEST decision of my life. I have had to wear contacts and glasses my whole life and it was getting in the way of everything. I went to get a consultation and they checked my eyes thoroughly to make sure I was a good candidate and scheduled me for the following week for lasik. The day of the surgery, everything went really well, and my eye wasn't even red or irritated the next day! Not only were results great, but the staff was so friendly and welcoming, and even let my husband sit in and watch the surgery. Dr. Maloney even sent me a personal letter afterwards, which is a nice touch. I am so grateful to Dr. Maloney and his team for their expertise and making everything smooth sailing. I wish I had done Lasik eye surgery sooner! The office was so professional and friendly. My apprehensions went away immediately! I was comfortable the entire time and when they said I was a candidate I was so excited & nervous. Dr. Maloney even fit me in before lunch knowing we drove so far for the appt. He talked me thru everything he was doing and when I got home I woke up to a text from Dr. Making sure all was good:) the office called also to make sure all was good! I can see!!!! What an amazing experience! I was very nervous to do lasik and I put it off for years. I have no clue why I waited. It is a life game changer. Dr Maloney did my eye doctor and her daughters’ surgeries so I knew they could be trusted. Every step of the process was top notch. The consultation was very thorough, and I spent time with two doctors and my surgeon, Dr Maloney. They had two doctors do separate examinations to make sure the procedure would be accurate. They were beyond patient answering all my questions and I never felt rushed. I have friends that had the procedure and never saw their surgeon until they were in surgery.
