Dr. Arjan Hura is a cataract, refractive, and anterior segment surgeon at the Maloney-Shamie-Hura Vision Institute in Los Angeles, CA. Dr. Hura is passionate about providing the highest possible medical and surgical vision care to his patients and is committed to the American Academy of Ophthalmology‘s mission of protecting sight and empowering lives. His research and clinical interests include working with the latest cutting-edge technology to constantly try to improve patient outcomes.
Cataract, LASIK, And Lens Surgeon
Prior to joining MSHVI, Dr. Hura completed his fellowship at the Cleveland Eye Clinic where he performed the full spectrum of vision correction including advanced lens laser cataract surgery, laser vision correction through LASIK, PRK and SMILE, implantable contact lenses (ICL), corneal cross-linking, and MIGS surgery.
During his residency at the University of Cincinnati, Dr. Hura was involved in several award-winning research studies and investigator-initiated trials. He received a National Eye Institute grant to present at ARVO during his internship, and he presented at ASCRS during all three years of his ophthalmology residency and was awarded Best Paper of Session at ASCRS 2019 and 2022.

Dr. Hura graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish. He was also the recipient of the Ohio State University Medalist Scholarship.

Dr. Hura received his medical degree from University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, where he served as Co-Class President, was a NIH-funded summer research fellow, and was inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society. He also received a Master of Science in Physiology.

Dr. Hura did his residency at the University of Cincinnati where as chief surgical resident he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society, received the ASCRS 2021 Resident Excellence Award, and was awarded the 2021 International Resident Leadership Award by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.

Dr. Hura performed my LASIK surgery and made me feel really comfortable during the entire procedure. He has had LASIK himself so he understands what it feels like to be the patient. So that gave me a lot of comfort as well. During the procedure he communicates constantly with his assistants so that you can hear as well. He made sure to answer any questions I had and also continued to touch base with me that evening to make sure I was doing okay. Dr. Hura and his staff really make an effort to make sure their patients are well taken care of. Thank you to Dr. Hura and his team, my vision has never been this clear!
I was anxious and apprehensive when I met with Dr. Hura. At age 76 , I could no longer deny the severity of the cataract I had. After testing, I learned my other eye also had a cataract. Dr. Hura thoroughly explained the laser cataract surgery, as well as my options. He explained the entire procedure to me, and I was comfortable with all aspects of the surgery. I had my first surgery the following Friday. I arrived and the surgery took place. I felt no pain and left with great vision. I completed the second surgery the following Friday. I was not nervous or tense, my previous surgery experience was so positive. My eyesight is great! I am able to see far, close and in-between! There was never any negative aspect to my surgeries. I find it a testament to Dr. Hura's great experience and skill. The surgeries changed my lifestyle. I am extremely grateful to Dr. Hura for my vision. I just had a wonderful evening playing tennis with my brother. I hadn't played tennis in a while, partly because seeing the ball had become increasingly difficult, which made it more frustrating than fun. Today I had a lot of fun. Dr. Hura corrected my vision, enabling me to experience life fully again. Recently had LASIK by Dr. Hura and could not be more stoked that I did! I went to 3 different places for consultations and Dr. Hura was the only one who suggested I wear my glasses for longer (after showing me why I may not be eligible on my first visit) and then explained his reasoning. He seemed optimistic but cautious, and after 6 more weeks in glasses, showed me what had changed and let me know he was comfortable moving forward with the procedure. No other place gave me that same level of specificity. The procedure itself was quick, painless and one week later, I have 20/20 and feel great! Highly recommend this team and Dr. Hura for LASIK.
